1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large egg yolk
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup milk chocolate English toffee bits
1/2 cup chopped pecans
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Cream butter, sugars, salt and egg yolk with an electric mixer until smooth. Gradually beat in flour. Mix in toffee bits.
Line a 13 x 19-inch baking pan with heavy duty aluminum foil. Press dough evenly into bottom of baking pan. Sprinkle with pecans and press lightly into dough. Bake until lightly browned, 20 to 22 minutes. Cool. Drizzle with Browned Butter Icing and cut into bars to serve.
Browned Butter Icing
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 to 3 teaspoons milk
Heat butter in small saucepan over low heat until browned (be careful not to burn). Remove from heat. Stir in confectioners' sugar, vanilla extract and enough milk to make a thin icing. Drizzle over Pecan Toffee Bars.
*Packaged milk chocolate toffee bits can be found in the baking section of most supermarkets. If not available, use milk chocolate-coated toffee candy bars (e.g. Heath Bars).
