This is a very moist cake.

1 cup boiling water
1 cup dates, chopped
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup mayonnaise
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup walnuts, chopped

Pour boiling water over dates and baking soda. Let cool. Mix sugar with mayonnaise, then add dates, flour and walnuts. Bake in 2 (8- or 9-inch) round cake pans at 350 degrees F for approximately 30 minutes or until top springs back when lightly touched. Frost with confectioners' sugar frosting or cream cheese frosting.
