Beer is basically comprised of water, grains (malted barley and adjuncts), hops, and yeast. The brewing process is fairly simple but you should review all material located here before you begin any brew. This site will also use many terms that are familiar only to brewers. I have included a reference page to help you speak without slurring!
Equipment: The basic items you will need to brew your own beer at home include:
1) 5-7 gallon food grade fermenting bucket. (I Recommend a 7 gal glass carboy) | |
2) 5 gallon glass carboy secondary fermenter | |
3) Large brew kettle"stock pot" prefer 18guage thickness or better (6 gal works well!) | |
4) Bottle capper and caps | |
5) Air lock | |
6) Bottle filler with tubing and siphon hose "get an auto siphon to make it easier (picture shown)" | |
7) Hydrometer and thermometer | |
8) 48 beer bottles (no twist offs) | |
9) Wort chiller | |
Other items that will be very useful during the brewing process include a kitchen scale, 2 rubber stoppers, large stainless steal spoons, large funnel, bottle brush for cleaning bottles and marking tape. |
